NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have drafted a number of players who participated in the Senior Bowl over the years, but few have had the impact that star running back Chris Johnson has. Johnson is one of the best players in franchise history and now he will be recognized as one of the best players to have ever gone through the Senior Bowl process. It was announced this week that Johnson will be inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame as part of their 2023 class.

Johnson played in the Senior Bowl in 2008 after a fantastic college career at East Carolina. As a Pirate, Johnson put up 6,993 all-purpose yards as a running back and a kick returner. His performance in his four-year college career led to Johnson being selected in the first round by the Tennessee Titans in the 2008 NFL draft.

Johnson went on to have decorated Titans’ career. “CJ2K,” as he was appropriately nicknamed, rushed for 7,965 yards and scored 50 touchdowns on the ground including his 2,000-yard rushing season in 2009. As a receiver, Johnson put up 272 catches for 2003 yards and eight touchdowns.

Johnson was named to three pro bowls during his time in Nashville. He was also named the offensive player of the year and made first-team all-pro after rushing for 2,000 yards during that 2009 season. Johnson’s career in Tennessee may have went out with a whimper before he ultimately finished his career elsewhere, but Johnson’s dynamic ability was at it’s peak with the Titans.

Along with Johnson, the Senior Bowl will also be inducting former Eagles Brian Westbrook and Lane Johnson, former Packer Clay Matthews and former Raven Marshall Yanda. As part of a fantastic group, Johnson should be elated to be selected and Johnson explained his thoughts in a statement.

“It was such a great honor to get invited to the Senior Bowl and represent East Carolina,” Johnson said. “It felt good to know the Senior Bowl thought I belonged there and I was excited to compete against all the top players in the country. It was an experience that I’ll never forget.”
