Dodgers Announce Starting Pitchers for Braves Series, Including Tyler Glasnow Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers, coming off back-to-back sweeps against the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates, are heading to Atlanta for a huge three-game series with the Braves.

The Dodgers (80-51) are four games up on the Braves (76-55) for the No. 2 seed in the National League. Whichever team finishes as the No. 3 seed will have to play in a best-of-three wild-card series to kick off the playoffs.

Moreover, after winning six straight games, the Dodgers are just one game back of the Milwaukee Brewers for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. However, after losing the season series to Milwaukee, the Dodgers need to pick up two games to take the top spot.

The Braves are coming off a series loss to the Brewers, but were able to salvage the series with a win on Sunday.

The Dodgers and Braves already played this season from May 8-10, with Atlanta taking two out of three games.

Tuesday, Aug. 25: RHP Tyler Glasnow vs. RHP Bryce Elder

Glasnow is making his long-awaited return to the Dodgers on Tuesday in the series opener against the Braves.

The right-hander left his May 6 start against the Houston Astros after one inning and hasn't pitched since, suffering multiple setbacks as he attempted to return from his back spasms.

“It just went with that [warm-up] pitch,” Glasnow said to The Athletic of his back. “And I think I just tried to come back too early a few times, and it just prolonged everything.”

Glasnow is 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA and 49 strikeouts across 39.2 innings this season. He made four rehab starts, allowing two runs over 13.2 innings with 20 strikeouts.

As for Elder, he's 8-7 with a 3.92 ERA across 24 starts and 137.2 innings this season.

The right-hander faced the Dodgers on May 10, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing one hit and four walks with eight strikeouts.

Wednesday, Aug. 26: RHP Roki Sasaki vs. RHP AJ Smith-Shawver

Sasaki is 5-5 with a 4.42 ERA across 116 innings this season, but has been absolutely dominant in the second half.

In five starts since the All-Star break, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA over 35 innings.

As for Smith-Shawver, he's made just two starts this season, allowing six runs over 8.2 innings for a 6.23 ERA. He underwent Tommy John surgery last June.

Thursday, Aug. 27: RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. LHP Chris Sale

It's a battle of aces in the series finale as Yamamoto and Sale face off in what will be a critical matchup.

Yamamoto is 12-7 with a 2.61 ERA and 145 strikeouts to 35 walks over 151.2 innings this season.

Sale is 12-9 with a 2.20 ERA and 166 strikeouts to 28 walks over 135 innings this season.

Yamamoto hasn't faced the Braves this season. Sale faced the Dodgers on May 8, allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings with seven strikeouts.
