Padres Make Trade, Acquire Infielder From Blue Jays

The San Diego Padres have made yet another trade, acquiring infielder Will Wagner from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for catcher Brandon Valenzuela.
Wagner is the son of Hall of Fame closer and seven-time All-Star Billy Wagner.

Wagner, Will that is, has a slash line of .237/.336/.298 with a .634 OPS through 40 games. Most of his appearances have been at third base, but he has also logged 75 innings at first base, and just one at second.
Defensively, Wagner has a Defensive Runs Saved ranking of -5 at third base, and a ranking of -1 during his time at first.
After celebrating his 27th birthday on Tuesday, the Houston, TX native is hoping to turn a new leaf with his new team. He is under team control through 2027.
Offensively, Wagner has an above-average walk-rate of 11.4 percent, and has been seeing more success at the plate since the All-Star break.

In his 28 at-bats since the Midsummer Classic, Wagner is hitting .286 with a .732 OPS. He isn't quite the power bat needed at the moment, but he doesn't need to be amid the many moves from president of baseball operations A.J. Preller.

Wagner will be a great infield depth piece and appears to be trending upwards on offense.
The deals may still be flowing through with just under an hour to go until the deadline. The Friars have added talent and depth in seemingly all of the necessary areas, will look to make a deep October run.
