Rays Are Set Up for Long-Term Success With Best Farm System in Baseball

The Tampa Bay Rays now have the best farm system in baseball, and they are going to be in a position to succeed long-term.

The Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball so far this season and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Despite expectations being very low for the team coming into the year, the Rays have been able to sustain an extremely high level of success this season. Tampa Bay was expected to come in last place in the American League East coming into the campaign, but they have been able to flip that script. 

Even though all of the other teams in their division were able to spend a lot of money to improve, it has been the Rays in first place so far. At the trade deadline, the team did not rest on their strong record and was aggressive in seeking improvements. 

Now, with a great chance to make some noise in the playoffs this year, Tampa Bay also appears to be a team that is set up for success for years to come as well. 

Recently, Baseball America released their updated farm system rankings following the MLB trade deadline. Despite Tampa Bay being buyers, they were able to move up to the top spot.

With the best record in the AL and the best farm system in baseball now as well, there is a ton to like about the direction that Tampa Bay is going. The Rays were pretty aggressive buyers at the deadline, but they didn’t have to part ways with some of their top prospects. 

While they could have made a major splash and gone aggressively after Tarik Skubal, that likely would have cost them an arm and a leg in terms of young talent.

Tampa Bay being able to add players like Freddy Peralta and Liam Hicks without having to give up a haul of prospects is pretty impressive and one of the reasons why the team is able to sustain success. 

Due to the Rays keeping their payroll on the lower side, having a strong farm system is key for their success. Tampa Bay coming in with seven players in the Top 100 is really impressive, and they have a plethora of young talent that is on the way. 

It is very rare that a team is able to have one of the best records in the league along with a top farm system. However, that is the case with the Rays, and the team is going to be good for quite some time.
