Luka Doncic Sends Telling Message After Lakers’ Stunning $12 Billion Sale

Superstar guard Luka Doncic has only been with the Los Angeles Lakers for a season and a half, but he’s already seen some drastic changes with his new team.

Last October, Doncic witnessed the Buss family sell the storied NBA franchise to Mark Walter for a record-setting $10 billion. That was shocking, to say the least, with Jeanie Buss and her family reluctant to sell the team ever since the passing of Dr. Jerry Buss in 2013.

After Walter took over, massive changes got underway, including a front office overhaul and a goal of following the Los Angeles Dodgers’ blueprint for success, which seemed like the right way to go, especially with Shohei Ohtani and company winning back-to-back World Series titles.

Luka Doncic Reacts to Lakers Being Sold for a Second Time

As if Doncic hadn’t gone through enough since his blockbuster trade to the Lakers, now he’s got to deal with yet another regime change in Los Angeles, with Walter selling the team to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for $12.5 billion, which sets another record.

In a classy move by the superstar, Doncic took to social media shortly after the news rocked the NBA and made it clear that being a Laker "means everything” to him right now and that he’s dedicated to winning a championship in Los Angeles as well as getting to know Iger and Kushner.

Once the news broke on Wednesday about the historic sale of the Lakers, the first thought for many Lakers fans was how it would affect Doncic’s view of the franchise and his future in Los Angeles.

Clearly, he seems unfazed by another ownership change during his stint with the Lakers, which is great news for fans and the organization.

What’s Next for the Lakers Under New Ownership?

Over the past month or so, all the attention has been on what the Lakers will do next with their roster, with rumors swirling about a potential sign-and-trade for Jonathan Kuminga or a deal with the Dallas Mavericks for sharpshooting Klay Thompson.

Now, the attention shifts back to the Lakers’ front office, which just underwent an overhaul, with several changes, including Lon Rosen returning to the franchise and the team bringing in Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager under Rob Pelinka.

Much like Walter did when he took over, Iger and Kushner could go the same route and make massive changes to the front office to run the team the way they want, rather than continuing the vision Walter had for the franchise.

There’s a chance things get messy if that’s the route the team takes moving forward, but perhaps the biggest question now is whether longtime general manager Rob Pelinka and governor Jeanie Buss are in the team’s plans under the new ownership.

Buss was assured to maintain her role as governor for at least five years, while Pelinka was tasked with the roster overhaul this summer, which he accomplished, highlighted by re-signing Austin Reaves and pulling off a sign-and-trade for Walker Kessler.

Obviously, Doncic being on board is a step in the right direction, but it remains to be seen what other moves will follow this ownership change and how it’ll impact the team’s immediate future in this new era of Lakers basketball.
