In this story:

The Dallas Mavericks' frontcourt is hanging on by a thread because of injuries. Daniel Gafford suffered an MCL sprain right before the All-Star Break, Dereck Lively II is recovering from a stress fracture in his ankle, Dwight Powell is still dealing with a hip strain, and Anthony Davis suffered an Adductor strain in his first game as a Maverick. That has forced Dallas to play small and sign old friend Moses Brown to a 10-day contract.

Dallas released an injury update on Davis on Thursday afternoon, and it seems like he's avoided surgery and could be back sooner rather than later.

Here is the statement provided by the Mavs PR team:

"The Dallas Mavericks today announced that Mavericks forward/center Anthony Davis, who suffered a left adductor strain on Feb. 8 against Houston, is making good progress.
Davis will be re-evaluated in two weeks with further updates to follow, as necessary."

While "making good progress" is incredibly vague, it's the first sign of optimism we've seen out of the frontcourt since he went down. There has also been no mention of surgery after the initial fear that it was a potential option. Kyrie Irving said in a sitdown interview with Malika Andrews over the weekend that the Mavericks are getting healthy at the right time, so maybe he knew something the rest of us didn't.

Davis was the main return from the Luka Doncic trade, and he dazzled before going down with injury just three quarters into his debut, putting up an absurd 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks against the Houston Rockets. The vision is still there to be a competitive team, but it starts with getting healthy.
