Wizards Shut Down Kyshawn George for Remainder of Season

In this story:
Despite it being heavily rumored in recent weeks, the Washington Wizards have officially made the call, shutting down sophomore guard Kyshawn George for the remainder of the 2025–26 season. George had been rehabbing from a collateral ligament tear in his left elbow since March 2, and after his recent reevaluation, the team decided it was best to end his season so as to not risk further re-aggravation.

This news is by no means the end of the world, as the Wizards have only six games left on their season slate and are in no rush to win any of those games. Washington recently reclaimed the top spot in the tank standings as well, furthermore setting itself up for success when the draft lottery rolls around.
Although he did miss a fair amount of time this season, it is important to point out just how impressive George’s second-year campaign was. The 22-year-old made a leap in nearly every statistical category, finishing the year posting averages of 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists a game.

George had taken the leap into stardom that the team envisioned when they first drafted him, cementing his place in the rotation moving forward. His combination of size, shooting ability, and ball skills make him one of the most dynamic offensive players on the team, and his defensive ability brings all the more value.
As for his long-term outlook, fans shouldn’t be too worried about what the future holds. George will likely be able to make a full recovery from said elbow injury in the coming weeks, giving him a full offseason to develop and recover. He has already proven that he can make a huge leap under NBA coaching when given a full offseason, so fans can likely expect another leap this year.
The real question with George’s future with the team will lie in the hands of how they go about using him. It’s clear that he has the ability to handle a fairly hefty usage and bring team success in the process of doing so, but his talents may be best utilized in another role — especially considering the team around him.

Guys like Alex Sarr, Trae Young, and Anthony Davis are undoubtedly going to be bigger parts of the offense for at least next year, and adding a possible top draft pick on top of that could push George even further down the totem pole. Either way the cookie is sliced, there is no doubt that he will be a staple in the team’s rotation for years to come.
