The 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk are Discussing Contract Parameters

ORLANDO -- John Lynch was asked about the 49ers' efforts to extend Brandon Aiyuk's contract Monday at the NFL's Annual Meeting. Here's what Lynch said:

Q: Are you involved in trade discussions with Brandon Aiyuk?

LYNCH: "No. I was just with Mike Tomlin at the Michigan Pro Day, and he coached me, so we're very close, and he was like, 'Bro, what's going on?' I promise you, nothing is going on there. We're actively talking with Brandon, trying to figure something out. We have a good history of working with the guys we want to get done to get something done. It takes two sides, so can we do that? We'll see. There's a number of different directions this could go, but we appreciate the heck out of Brandon and who he is as a player. We want him to be a part of the 49ers, so we're going to work to make that a reality."

Q: Would you guys be OK with him playing under the fifth-year option?

LYNCH: "Yeah, that's one of the options."

Q: Would he be OK with that?

LYNCH: "I don't know, you'd have to ask him that."

Q: Are you guys negotiating a deal right now or just talking?

LYNCH: "We're talking with his guys. We're trying to talk about some parameters of some things. We're having discussions and that's a good thing."

Q: Does it sound like this extension could not be easy?

LYNCH: "I hope it is. I don't think they're ever easy. You have to work. Brandon is special to me personally. He's special to Kyle. He's a special part of the team. He's a warrior. He has a real cool package he brings to the table with his competitiveness. There are so many reasons we want him to be around. We're going to strive to make that happen. Will it be difficult? I'm sure it will be, but we've done a good job at that. Are there some trials around these things? Sometimes there are, but ultimately that's all forgotten when you get something done, and I hope that's the case here.
