Report: Browns Still Lurking at Possibly Signing WR DeAndre Hopkins

While the book was supposedly closed on the possibility of DeAndre Hopkins joining the Cleveland Browns, the team is reportedly still sniffing around the idea.

While it was said the Cleveland Browns were out on free agent wideout DeAndre Hopkins, a new report from ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio says the Browns are still looking at the possibility of signing the former Pro Bowl wide receiver.

To this point, the only two teams that Hopkins has had a visit with are the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. The most buzz is coming from the Patriots, who have an obvious fit for him. Paolantonio mentions that the Patriots and Hopkins are both heavily interested but there may be a culture fit holding the signing back. Hopkins has not been a player that likes to practice a ton and that is something that just may not mesh well with veteran coach Bill Belichick.

All along, there has been a connection of some sort between Hopkins and the Browns, mainly because he played alongside quarterback Deshaun Watson for multiple years with the Houston Texans.

The only way the Browns will make the move looks to be if it comes at a low cost. If he wants more money, he will end up with the Titans or Patriots because Cleveland would be smarter to roll that cap space over or sign another defensive tackle. Maybe they’ll want to sign a running back, which is a more glaring need than Hopkins.

As time goes by, it’s more likely that Hopkins may get a lesser amount, and that could entice Cleveland to kick the idea around. At this point, there has been no visit made and nothing substantial in the two sides talking.

Hopkins in Cleveland is not a need, it is more of a luxury at the wide receiver position. He is still a good football player even if he has fallen off a bit, but one that Cleveland should stay away from unless ur cones at a cheap price.
