NFL Analyst Explains Why Myles Garrett is the Best EDGE in the NFL
Myles Garrett hasn't led the NFL in sacks yet but when you dig deeper you'll find out that he's probably the top edge rusher in the NFL. In a video out by Pro Football Network, analyst Arif Hasan spoke about why Garrett should be viewed as the top edge rusher.
He pointed to the fact that Garrett has the complete athletic package. It's not just size and speed of edge. It's his build, his wingspan, and his ability to bend around the tackles. There are not many around the NFL that has the same build and makeup.
Consistency is important and it was another point. In the last two seasons alone, Garrett has put up 32 sacks in total. Garrett has had at least 12 sacks in four of the last five seasons, the only time he didn't was when he was suspended for the final six games in 2019. Cleveland's star pass rusher still has 10 sacks through 10 games that year.
It's not just Garrett's impact around the edge, teams have to gameplan for him. Hasan pointed to teams having to slide extra protection, run away from him, and more. All of those factor into helping out the rest of your defensive line get good matchups.
As long as Garrett is in Cleveland he will be beloved by fans. But his work over the past few years has garnered him the national spotlight as perhaps the top sack artist in the NFL, as it should.
