In this story:

It looks like people around the NFL have forgotten about the talent that is Amari Cooper. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver put together his fifth 1,000-yard season in nine years. A couple of the other seasons he would have gone over that threshold if he had played a full season.

Still, in a poll run by ESPN, NFL personnel ranked the top-10 wide receivers and it didn’t include Cooper.

  1. Justin Jefferson – Minnesota Vikings
  2. Davante Adams – Las Vegas Raiders
  3. Ja’Marr Chase – Cincinnati Bengals
  4. Tyreek Hill – Miami Dolphins
  5. Cooper Kupp – Los Angeles Rams
  6. Stefon Diggs – Buffalo Bills
  7. A.J. Brown – Philadelphia Eagles
  8. DK Metcalf – Seattle Seahawks
  9. Terry McLaurin – Washington Commanders
  10. CeeDee Lamb – Dallas Cowboys

Now, it goes deeper than that. Six more wideouts were named honorable mention with none of them being Cooper.

  • Deebo Samuel – San Francisco 49ers
  • Mike Evans – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Tee Higgins – Cincinnati Bengals
  • Garrett Wilson – New York Jets
  • Jaylen Waddle – Miami Dolphins
  • DeVonta Smith – Philadelphia Eagles

Players also receiving votes:

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown – Detroit Lions
  • Chris Olave – New Orleans Saints
  • Calvin Ridley – Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Amari Cooper – Cleveland Browns
  • Tyler Lockett – Seattle Seahawks
  • Keenan Allen – Los Angeles Chargers
  • DJ Moore – Chicago Bears
  • DeAndre Hopkins – Tennessee Titans
  • Mike Williams – Los Angeles Chargers
  • Chris Godwin – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

By the count of the rankings, Cooper comes in at No. 20. There are players ahead of him who have not played much lately, as well as guys who have been in the year longer than one year. It is hard to picture Cooper as the 20th-best wide receiver in the NFL, he’s higher than that.

Cooper’s last year with the Dallas Cowboys was a bit inconsistent but he bounced back to being himself with the Browns in 2022 with 1,160 receiving yards.

In 2023, expect Cooper to go over the 1,000-yard threshold again. He will have a full season with Deshaun Watson and more talent around him.
