Former Browns Linebacker Could end up With the Cowboys
Due to injuries taking over the linebacker room during the 2022 season, the Cleveland Browns went out and made a move for linebacker Deion Jones, previously with the Atlanta Falcons. The move worked out for the time being but Jones is a free agent now and is waiting on his next opportunity.
One idea floated around was the possibility of the Dallas Cowboys signing him, perhaps it’s the team that makes the most sense. Though, a return to Cleveland shouldn’t be completely ruled out, as the Browns have Sione Takitaki recovering from an injury. The Browns resigned Anthony Walker Jr., who will be the starting MIKE.
The Cowboys connection makes sense when you look at the defensive coordinator there. Dan Quinn has been with Dallas since 2021 but was previously the Falcons’ head coach from 2015-2020. Jones spent from 2016 until traded to the Browns last season in Atlanta.
In 11 games with the Browns, Jones totaled 44 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a fumble, and an interception each. While Jones wasn’t healthy in 2022, he got the job done for the most part and would have benefited even more from better interior play.
At just 28 years old, Jones has some juice left in the tank and could end up in Dallas, matched with his former head coach.
