GLENDALE -- Nothing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes does should surprise anybody to this point, though he continues to impress nearly every time he's on a football field.

Mahomes did so again during the first quarter of his preseason battle against the Arizona Cardinals, evading pressure and being forced to the sideline before jumping and nearly squeezing an insane pass with five Cardinals closing down on him. The ball was just behind Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who saw the pass hit off of his hands.

Though it won't count, it was just another in the long line of draw-dropping throws completed by one of the best of his generation.

Mahomes is no stranger to State Farm Stadium - he threw for 360 yards for five touchdowns and no interceptions during Kansas City's 44-21 drubbing of the Cardinals in Week 1 of last season.

To conclude Kansas City's campaign, they won the Super Bowl right here in Glendale over the Philadelphia Eagles. Jonathan Gannon and Nick Rallis - now on Arizona's staff, were on the other side of the defeat.

The Chiefs hope to have a similar fate as last season while the Cardinals are in the beginning stages of a fresh rebuild.

"Do I enjoy good competition? Absolutely. Yes, I do. That's a phenomenal offense. Obviously, [getting to face] one of the best quarterbacks in the game, you'll find out how high of a level you can compete, so I'm excited for that," said Rallis this week when asked about facing Mahomes and KC's offense.

At the end of the first quarter, Mahomes finished with a touchdown pass to Justin Watson to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead.
