Chargers News: Austin Ekeler Can Land Huge Incentives With Bolts If He Plays Well to End the Season

Austin Ekeler can rebound his season in more ways than one.

In his contract year, Austin Ekeler has not lived up to expectations. Ekeler was hurt at the beginning of the season, and he dealt with drops that have nearly killed his 2023 campaign. The Los Angeles Chargers may move on from the RB to save room on the cap, but Ekeler can still come out on top with incentives

Ekeler can net a $1 million incentive bonus if he is to hit 1,125 scrimmage yards. He currently has 879 scrimmage yards: 506 rushing and 379 receiving. He only needs 246 scrimmage yards to land that bonus. That would equate to around 86 scrimmage yards, which should be an easy task for the RB1.

On top of the yards bonus, Ekeler can also land an additional $600,000 for bringing in 10 TDs. He is currently at 6 TDs on the season, and would only need 4 more across the next three games to land his bonus.

Ekeler had been searching for a better contract from the Chargers in the offseason, but that never came to pass. The idea was that he would play well enough this season on his altered deal to goad the Bolts into a new contract.

Sadly, it appeared that he had lost a step, but it could be because of the injuries on the offensive line.

Either way, we highly doubt that the Chargers plan to bring him back, and will instead look to the draft and FA to shore up the RB room.

At the very least, Ekeler can walk away from the Chargers with an additional $1.6 million if he hits his incentive goals.
