Report: Chiefs Reuniting With Former Super Bowl Champion DE Emmanuel Ogbah

Dating back to early in the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have had a questionable collection of talent in the defensive end room. Just days before the club opens its preseason slate against the Los Angeles Rams, general manager Brett Veach is making a move to help add some depth.

Per a Tuesday morning report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chiefs are reuniting with old friend Emmanuel Ogbah. It's a one-year deal for the veteran, who spent the 2019-20 campaign in Kansas City and was a member of the Super Bowl LIV-winning team.

Ogbah sat out the team's last six regular-season games and the entirety of the ensuing postseason run during the aforementioned year due to injury, then moved on to the Miami Dolphins. He spent five seasons in Miami, racking up 29.5 sacks and 28 tackles for loss in 73 outings.

The former second-round pick played 13 regular-season games with the Jacksonville Jaguars a year ago, although he mustered just half a sack on 323 defensive snaps. His 45.9 Pro Football Focus overall grade ranked 111th out of 115 qualified edge rushers, accompanied by 16 total pressures and 12 hurries in 181 pass-rushing opportunities.

Standing 6-foot-4 with 35-inch arms and a sturdy frame, Ogbah fits the more traditional mold of a Steve Spagnuolo defensive end. His background in the system is a plus, but he does turn 33 in November, so it's worth monitoring exactly how much he has left in the tank.

What the Emmanuel Ogbah signing means for Chiefs' defensive ends

In the aftermath of the Ogbah signing, Joshua Brisco of Chiefs On SI outlined what this pickup could mean for the rest of the defensive end rotation in KC.

"After months of questioning the Chiefs' defensive end depth, a move like this always made sense for Kansas City," Brisco said. "Even with optimism for second-year third-round pick Ashton Gillotte or fourth-year first-rounder Felix Anudike-Uzomah, the room has been shallow all offseason (after being a weakness throughout 2025).

"Ogbah, in his age-33 season, shouldn't be expected to take on a tremendous workload, but he has a clear path to playing time. George Karlaftis is still the room's lone surefire starter, while rookie R Mason Thomas will be the most important unknown for '26 and beyond, but Ogbah should be able to play passable snaps while helping set the floor of KC's rotation of edge defenders.

"The timing is interesting for a few reasons. The Chiefs could've connected with Ogbah before training camp to get him into Spagnuolo's defense weeks earlier, but it's reasonable to assume that the Chiefs wanted to give their in-house options the first crack at a potential No. 5 defensive end position.

"Instead, after Gillotte's hamstring injury held him out of practice for more than a week, KC made the move to bring in Ogbah. Between Gillotte's injury scare and a quiet week for the team's developmental EDGE hopefuls, Ogbah's return makes for a logical bolstering of KC's pass rush with a steady veteran."
