ARLINGTON - The Dallas Cowboys had enormous expectations heading into the 2019-20 season. Expectations, some say, that would be impossible to live up to. After week one, however, the Cowboys looked to be right on track with those predictions, dominating the New York Giants 35-17 in the season opener. 

And QB Dak Prescott especially did that, with the first perfect-QB-rating game in franchise history and owner Jerry Jones telling the media afterward that a contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in team history is "imminent.''

After stopping the Cowboys on their first possession of the game, the Giants immediately drove down the field for a score to take a quick 7-0 lead. 

Unphased, the Cowboys would answer with a methodical 11-play 75-yard scoring drive of their own, that was capped off with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to tight end Blake Jarwin, tying the game at seven points apiece. 

From there, the rout was on, as the Cowboys defense would hold the Giants in check for the rest of the afternoon, thanks in large part to the safety play from Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath. 

While the defense was solid and held the Giants to 17 points, it was the Cowboy offense that impressed the most, tallying 35 points and 500 yards of total offense on the afternoon. 

Quarterback Dak Prescott led the way for the Cowboys, completing 25 of 32 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns, with a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3 on the afternoon. 

Prescott's pass catchers were all on their respective games as well, with Prescott completing passes to eight different receivers including seven passes to Michael Gallup for 156 yards, and six passes to Amari Cooper for 106 yards and a touchdown. 

Prescott also completed touchdown throws to four different receivers, including the aforementioned Cooper, new slot man Randall Cobb, and tight ends Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin.

Newly-minted $90 million man Ezekiel Elliott, on the other hand, only carried the ball 13 times for 53 yards, but did score a fourth-quarter touchdown to put the game out of reach. 

Rookie running back Tony Pollard split carries with Elliott, having 13 of his own, but managed just 24 yards on those attempts, averaging 1.8 yards per carry.

Overall, was it as easy as it looked?

Dak wouldn’t say that, but he noted, “I will say, it did feel like a well-oiled machine.”

With yet another season-opening win against the New York Giants in their back pocket, the Cowboys will now take a 1-0 record into their week two road matchup against the Redskins.
