3 Observations on Jaguars' Orlando Announcement

What do we make of the Jacksonville Jaguars officially landing in Orlando for 2027?

In this story:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have their 2027 home.

NFL owners on Tuesday unanimously approved terms of a temporary, one-year stadium lease between the Jaguars and Florida Citrus Sports for the Jaguars to use Camping World Stadium in Orlando during the 2027 season. So, what do we make of the decision?

Orlando made the most sense from the jump

Orlando was always the favorite to land the Jaguars for the 2027 season, so it was hardly a surprise when the NFL passed the measure with ease in Phoenix this week. In terms of semantics, Orlando and Camping World Stadium offered the easiest path for the Jaguars to get through their lone season outside of Jacksonville.

There will be some questions the Jaguars will have to answer and hurdles they have to clear, at least operationally. The Jaguars always knew this was the case, though, and 2027 is set to be a critical year in the construction of the renovated EverBank Stadium. For the one year of sacrifice the team will have to make, Orlando was a fairly easy choice to make.

There is value in clarity

In short, there is defintely value for the Jaguars in having the clarity and finality when it comes to the 2027 season. While Orlando was always the expected outcome for Jacksonville, there is nothing set in stone until the vote is officially cast. Now that is has been, the Jaguars can officially turn their 2027 focus toward getting their operations and plans set for Orlando.

The Jaguars' on-field focus of course will be on 2026. Do not expect Liam Coen to overlook 2026 for a reason. He and his staff will get to 2027 when they need to. For now, though, the rest of the Jaguars' operations staff can begin to prepare for an important season.

This should keep one game off the international slate

With the Jaguars set to play home games in Orlando in 2027, my guess is they play closer to five games in Orlando than they do a whole slate. I would expect several international games because, well, what better year to do it than a year where the Jaguars are displaced.

With that said, there is one game the NFL must keep in Orlando: the Jaguars vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This seems like the perfect opportunity for the NFL to market both franchises to Central Florida, and making each travel outside the country instead of right down the road makes little sense.
