3 Jaguars Trending Toward the Roster Bubble Through 2 Weeks of Training Camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- We are set to enter the third week of Jacksonville Jaguars training camp with Tuesday's practice at the Miller Electric Center, and we are starting to get into the thick of things.

This week, the Jaguars will travel to New Orleans for joint practices with the Saints before kicking off their first preseason game on Saturday, setting up one of the most important weeks of training camp.

With that importance comes a few Jaguars who will need to make up some ground as camp sees them drift closer to the roster bubble. Here are three such players, broken down below.

LB Yasir Abdullah

I came out of the Jaguars' scrimmage last week thinking Jalen McLeod did a good job of setting himself apart in the backup strong side linebacker battle between him to Yasir Abdullah, though Abdullah himself has also flashed at times. But this is a niche role on the defense and there are only so many spots on the Jaguars' 53-man roster for strong side linebackers, which means it feels more likely the Jaguars only keep one of these two behind Dennis Gardeck on the depth chart.

Abdullah has been a core special teamer for the Jaguars, but the Jaguars are looking for as much pass-rush upside as they can find. McLeod offers that for the Jaguars and Anthony Campanile has already thrown his support behind the second-year defender. Abdullah has done nothing to lose a spot, but this is more so due to numbers.

CB Christian Braswell

The Jaguars have been slowly easing in cornerback Christian Braswell over the course of the first half of camp, with Braswell's snaps in practice mostly coming during individual drills to this point. The Jaguars know what he can do on both special teams and defense, so there is not a lot of mystery in terms of what he offers or has to prove.

But Braswell has been out, the Jaguars have seen some backup cornerbacks impress with Jabbar Muhammad and Devon Marshall, who are both players who can line up inside and outside like Braswell can. If he can't get to 100% soon, he may be a stash candidate as the Jaguars promote the young guys.

TE Quintin Morris

I came into the spring and summer believing the Jaguars' newfound interest in multiple tight end sets would lead to them carrying four tight ends on the roster, with Quintin Morris as the favorite to be the fourth tight end behind Brenton Strange and rookie tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol. Now that we are a few weeks into camp, though, I may lean toward the Jaguars carrying just three tight ends.

The Jaguars have simply not featured the position enough beyond the first three tight ends to warrant carrying a fourth unless that player has shown enough to mark himself safe on the roster independent from the Jaguars' plans. Morris has not been that type of performer in camp thus far, and he also sustained an injury in last Friday's scrimmage. It remains to be seen how long that injury could impact Morris, but it feels like any missed time could hurt his chances.
