Johnson: Football Will 'Start Gravitating' Towards Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams has earned more opportunities.

The Detroit Lions coaching staff has a tendency of rewarding players who put in the work during practice and execute consistently on a weekly basis.

For second-year wideout Jameson Williams, time on task and working diligently in practice has translated into increased opportunities in Ben Johnson's offense.

Detroit's speedy wideout has been a willing blocker, is running crisper routes and the issues with drops have steadily diminished the past couple of weeks.

Against Green Bay, Williams recorded two receptions for 51 yards.

While the former No. 12 overall draft pick has not lit up the stat sheet, his work as a distraction or drawing added attention pulling a defender to open up lanes for his teammates has been valuable for Johnson and the coaching staff.

"He's getting better every week," Johnson said. "You see it. And because of that, the way he's practicing, the way he's preparing and the way he's playing, because of that, his reps are going up."

With continued work in practice, Williams is expected to have more targets come his way.

His deep threat capability is an element that not many offenses possess.

Against a Saints defense that could be missing key players on defense, Williams may be utilized and targeted more than he previously has this season.

"He continues to get out there and the ball is going to just start gravitating to him just a little bit more than it already has," Johnson commented. "But, he's doing a really nice job and he just needs to continue to put in the work like he's doing right now. And good things will happen."
