Bud Clark Injury Update is Bad News for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are disappointed after No. 64 overall pick Bud Clark broke his ankle in the team's 19-16 loss against the Tennessee Titans in the second game of the preseason at Nissan Stadium.

Clark suffered the injury early in the first quarter, which put a damper on the rest of the game. The Seahawks were able to score 16 points in the first 15 minutes of the game, but they were held scoreless in the final three quarters. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald spoke after the game about Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman, who also suffered a lower-leg injury.

"We had two really tough injuries today," Macdonald said via the team's website. "Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge, the severity I'm not sure, but he's going to be out multiple months. Then we're going to try to figure out what's going on with Mason, but we also think that's a major injury, a long-term injury.

"Two guys that we love that play our style of ball that are our type of guys. Teammates love them, great teammates, great guys, great football players, they have great futures. It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We got three heartbreakers this weekend, which is tough."

Bud Clark 'Out Multiple Months'

Clark is in the mix to be one of the key contributors in the secondary at the safety position, but his injury is going to derail most, if not his entire, rookie season. That's a big loss for the Seahawks, who are counting on Clark to help replace Coby Bryant, who ironically enough also suffered an injury earlier in training camp in his first season with the Chicago Bears.

With Clark likely heading to the injured reserve, it will now require the depth behind the rookie to step up in his place.

"We're going to have to reevaluate where we're at, but we saw some good things today out of AJ (Finley) and D'Anthony (Bell), so we'll see," Macdonald said postgame. "Max (Maxen Hook) I think did some good stuff, but we'll definitely have to reevaluate."

The Seahawks could look to sign some veterans or possibly even trade for one on the open market, but it's clear that the Seahawks are going to have to pivot off of their original plans.
