Seahawks 'in discussions' with former 3rd-round pick on potential reunion

According to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Seattle Seahawks are "in discussions" with free-agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin. Now that the draft is over, the team is looking to add some veteran experience to its young secondary.

Griffin was originally selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. The 29-year-old started 53 games over his four seasons in Seattle, making a Pro Bowl in 2019.

In 2024, Griffin appeared in 17 games for the Minnesota Vikings. He made three starts and recorded two interceptions as the team went 14-3. According to Fowler, no deal has been reached, but the Seahawks remain interested.

The Seahawks just drafted talented safety Nick Emmanwori in the second round, but they could use a little more leadership on the back end. Griffin is someone who could start on the outside or simply provide more veteran depth for a potential playoff push.

Over eight NFL seasons, Griffin has recorded nine interceptions, 70 passes defended, one sack and one forced fumble in 106 games (82 starts). After leaving Seattle in 2021, Griffin spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In 2023, he played for the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers before joining the Vikings last season.
