PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will now look elsewhere for a starting slot cornerback this offseason as one of their top options is headed elsewhere. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles are re-signing Avonte Maddox to a one-year deal.

Maddox, 28, has spent his entire career in Philadelphia and will now continue to do so. The Pitt alum was thought to be an option for the Steelers this offseason as they looked for a new starting slot cornerback and he looked to head elsewhere in free agency. As time passed, it appeared the chances of the two uniting may have a chance, but that's now ended.

Maddox has dealt with injuries throughout his career, making him a bit of a question mark in terms of availability. Still, when on the field, he's been consistent, recording four interceptions.

The Steelers need a slot cornerback before the season and currently don't have starter-quality options. Head coach Mike Tomlin said at the NFL Meetings that the team does have a whole there, making more interesting to how they will fill it.

Currently, their options would be Darius Rush and potentially Damontae Kazee and Trenton Thompson. They've been open to renegotiating with Patrick Peterson, and may look to reunite with Chandon Sullivan as other options as well.
