Titans Visited with One of the Top Tight End in the 2023 NFL Draft

In this story:

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans need talented pass catchers. When you say that, most people instantly think of wide receiver, but in an offense that routinely features two tight ends, a tight end could prove to be just as valuable as a receiver, if not more. With that in mind it should be no surprise that, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Titans have already spent time with Dalton Kincaid, the talented tight end out of Utah.

Schefter revealed in a tweet that not only had Kincaid met with the Titans, but Kincaid has been fully cleared from a back issue that ended his college football season in November 2022. Dr. Robert Watkins fully cleared Kincaid and sent his conclusion to all NFL teams on Wednesday. In the same tweet with Dr. Watkins explanation, Schefter also revealed other teams that Kincaid had spoke with or will in the near future. The list included the Titans, as mentioned, and the Bengals, Patriots, Packers, Texans, Raiders, Chargers, Jaguars, Lions, Chiefs and Cowboys.

That is quite the extensive list, but Kincaid could potentially be the first tight end taken in the draft with this optimistic news. As for the Titans, they certainly need another tight end to pair with second-year standout Chig Okonkwo. It will all be about fit though as Okonkwo has a limited skillset due to his size and blocking ability. Whoever the Titans pair with Okonkwo will need to balance out his skills so the Titans don’t tip their hand with their personnel. Simply put, the Titans need a good blocking tight end to put with Okonkwo.

Is Kincaid that? Probably not. Kincaid is much more of a “move” tight end that can be used in the slot and primarily as a receiver. He doesn’t have the blocking ability needed to be on the field with Okonkwo consistently on early downs. However, the Titans did meet with him so maybe they see a fit that isn’t obvious. What we do know is the Titans need another tight end, so ruling out Kincaid would not be wise.
