Currently the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference the Brooklyn Nets have to hold off the Magic, Wizards, and Hornets to make the playoffs.

Even without Kevin Durant coming back for this season the Nets have a good chance to hold onto their playoff spot in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Before the league hit the pause button on their season due to the coronavirus, Brooklyn had a 30-34 record, good enough for the seventh seed in the East. But the Magic and Wizards are nipping at their heels while looking to move up in the standings.

According to FanDuel, Brooklyn’s odds of making the playoffs is the heavy favorites. Their odds to make the postseason sits at -3,000 while the odds to miss out on the playoffs is at +1,200. Sports Illustrated’s gambling analyst Corey Parson and SI commentator Robin Lundberg discuss if gamblers should be willing to bet on the Nets to make the playoffs.

Read the transcript from their analysis:

Kaitlin O'Toole: The NBA's futures betting market is back and we are breaking down the Brooklyn Nets. Joining me now is SI host Robin Lundberg and fantasy and gambling analyst Corey Parson. Robin, let's start with you. How do you think the Brooklyn Nets will do this playoff season?

Robin Lundberg: Well, not well, look, I mean, they're positioned pretty strongly to make the playoffs because I think they were six games up on the ninth seed when the season stopped. But you showed pictures of Kyrie Irving. We know he's not playing. Kevin Durant isn't playing without those guys. They're frankly not a very talented team. They still have Caris Levert. They still have Spencer Dinwiddie and they're solid. But if they get in there with a real team in a playoff series, they are going to lose and they are going to lose without it going the distance. Robin Lundberg: That does not sound good, Corey. I got to get your take on this, obviously. Robin does not have any faith in the Brooklyn Nets. But do you what are the odds on this?

Corey Parson: Well, listen, right now on the FanDuel sportsbook, you get +1200 for the Brooklyn Nets not to make the playoffs. And I will bet that none right now and they aren't in a good position. What a six game lead on a nine. See, here's the thing. I think the Orlando Magic jump them and the Brooklyn Nets become the 8th seed. All the Washington Wizards have to do is finish within two games of them. And if the Washington Wizards can get that done, then they'll force a play in series. I think those two play-in games can be won by the Washington Wizards. So this is basically we're doing: we're taking last week's bet of the Wizards to make the playoffs, +1400. Combining it with the Nets, not make the playoffs at +1200. You put fifty dollars into those bets. You can turn 100 dollars into fourteen hundred dollars in the first eight weeks before the season even starts. No Kevin Durant, no Kyrie Irving, interim head coach in Jacque Vaughn. I think it's worth a shot. I think Brooklyn Nets may be in disarray right now. So listen, last week when I wrote about the Wizards. I saw it pop up all over the Internet. I'm sure this one will, too.

Kaitlin O'Toole: All right. I love that. Thank you guys for your insight on this. I really appreciate it.
