Edmonton Elks Roster Moves Includes Extending LB Tony Jones

The Edmonton Elks stayed busy to close out January and begin February by signing six players, releasing two and extending linebacker Tony Jones.

Constructing rosters can be challenging as teams look to find the right pieces to a massive puzzle. The Edmonton Elks found some pieces they hope will fit right for the 2024 season.

The team announced the signings of six players, released two from last year’s team and re-signed linebacker Tony Jones.

Starting with the releases, the Elks let go of running back Shannon Brooks and defensive lineman Oliver Charles-Pierre. Brooks was a backup in Edmonton last season, rushing for 175 yards on 36 carries. Charles-Pierre played in three games, netting three tackles.

The Elks brought back Jones after a successful 2023 campaign. He played in all 18 regular season games, finishing with 52 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He joined the Elks in 2022, playing in two games after starting the season with the Toronto Argonauts on their practice roster.

The six players signed this past week:

  • RB Ja’Won Howell
  • DL Aaron Adeoye
  • WR Malik Flowers
  • DL Joseph Jackson
  • DB Malik Jones
  • RB Sewo Olonilua

Edmonton has the least number of players currently entering free agency with eight. The team has extended 10 players and released two from their free agency list.
