The Los Angeles Dodgers have brought a familiar face back to their organization.

After being fired as the San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations, Farhan Zaidi is being hired as a special advisor to the Dodgers, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

In talks of a potential front office role first being reported in December by The Athletic, a deal has finally been struck between the team and its’ former general manager.

As Zaidi was replaced in San Francisco by longtime Giants catcher Buster Posey as the new president of baseball operations, his run in the Bay Area saw him do something no other team aside from the Dodgers in the National League West has been able to do since 2012:

Win the division.

Zaidi’s best moment upon taking over in San Francisco at the end of the 2018 campaign was when the Giants finally usurped the Dodgers, winning the NL West in 2021. Although nobody was able to do this since the Dodgers first started their divisional dominance in 2012, this proved to be Zaidi’s only season finishing over .500.

Zaidi still landed major names like Matt Chapman and Blake Snell before the 2024 campaign, but after an abysmal 80-82 finish, and Snell making his way to the Dodgers, it was time for San Francisco to move on.

As general manager of the Dodgers, Zaidi served from the 2015 season until the end of the 2018 campaign. He oversaw two World Series appearances, including their first championship berth in 29 years in the controversial 2017 season, but unfortunately ended his tenure with no championships to his name.

Los Angeles will do everything in their power to change this in 2025.

Zaidi started out earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later received a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. He reportedly read the book Moneyball which he said changed his life and led him to pursue a career in sports.

Getting his start for the Oakland Athletics and working for the great Billy Beane skyrocketed his career and by 2014, Zaidi was the assistant general manager of the club.

The Dodgers hope to make another World Series appearance under Zaidi, of course in a different role than he was previously, but this time with a different ending for the MIT graduate.
