Giants Waste No Time With Victor Bericoto After Latest Roster Shakeup

Victor Bericoto is back from the injured list and he immediately returns to the lineup.

The San Francisco Giants made several roster moves on Tuesday ahead of their second game against the Houston Astros. It sure didn’t take long for one of them to have an impact on the starting lineup, either.

Outfielder Victor Bericoto was reinstated from the 10-day injured list after recovering from an oblique injury. He gets the immediate start in left field and will bat fifth as San Francisco continues its quest to beat the Astros at Oracle Park in a three-game series.

San Francisco also signed veteran catcher Andrew Knizner to a major-league contract while it designated infielder/outfielder Eddy Leonard for assignment. Zach Morgan was optioned back to Triple-A Sacramento after a one-day stint in the majors.

Knizner gives the Giants another catching option following Daniel Susac’s placement on the injured list due to a fractured kneecap.

Bericoto Goes Back Into Middle of the Order

Manager Tony Vitello is confident in Bericoto and placed him right back in the lineup.

Jung Hoo Lee will lead off while playing right field. Willy Adames will follow him and play shortstop. Bryce Eldridge is moving from designated hitter to first base, while Rafael Devers will step in at DH and bat cleanup.

The Giants played a pretty good game on Monday evening but just couldn’t get the win. The Astros came back in heroic fashion in the bottom of the ninth and then went on to score three times in the tenth to earn the 6-3 win over the Giants.

Carson Whisenhunt is getting the ball for San Francisco. The left-hander enters Tuesday at 2-3 with a 7.25 ERA.

Houston will counter with their star Hunter Brown who is now 3-1, with a 3.53 ERA.

The Giants’ postseason aspirations are all but over, so the final weeks of the season become much more about looking to the future.

Bericoto fits into that picture, and given that he is healthy and able to be in the lineup immediately, he will have the opportunity to show Tony Vitello and Buster Posey what he can do.

Given that the Giants are strictly looking to the future, what Bericoto does with the opportuity being presented to him at this point could mean a lot to both his and the team’s future.
