How Travis Bazzana Just Increased His Chances of Getting a Call-up to the Majors

In this story:
It's hard to believe the Cleveland Guardians' front office still hasn't given Travis Bazzana the nod.
The former No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 MLB June Amateur Draft has begun the 2026 campaign off on the right foot. Whether it's through the World Baseball Classic, the spring training window or even the start of the minor league campaign, he's shown that he has a lot of talent.
He's drawing walks and getting on base, hitting with power and even playing reliable defense, an aspect of his game that always had a question mark over it.
But with how well he's playing, the Guardians may be forced into a tough decision to shake up the roster, even though they are an above .500 squad.
Bazzana's Electric Night
The 23-year-old suited up for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers last night, taking on the Indianapolis Indians. When all was said and done, the Clippers came out on top, 9-8. However, they may not have been able to get the job done if it weren't for Bazzana.
With two on in the bottom of the ninth inning, two outs on the board, Bazzana stepped into the batter's box with a controlled mindset. He sat in and waited for the pitch he liked before belting it deep for a game-ending walk-off RBI single.
If it wasn't for a run crossing home plate to cap the game off, there's a chance Bazzana's knock is a double, not a single, and results in two total RBI.
Either way, he finished his night off on the perfect note. He finished with two total hits in six at-bats.

Moments like this, and his home run in Game 1 of the WBC for Team Australia, show that the youngster doesn’t play like one. He never looks too big or too small for the moment.
There are still areas of his game that need to grow and improve over time, most notably his hesitancy to swing at certain pitches in the zone and his overall defensive efficiency, but those are things that can be developed with experience.
In the big leagues, Gabriel Arias, who is currently blocking Bazzana's path up to the major league roster, has been struggling. While he did smack his first home run of the 2026 campaign just a few days ago in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, it was just his second total knock of the season. That type of inefficiency at the plate has caused issues for the Guardians lineup to keep innings going in crucial situations, and also even simply just put bodies on the bags.
Arias is currently 2-for-19, slashing .105/.150/.263 for an OPS of .413 with nine strikeouts.
Unless he's able to do a 180 in the coming weeks, his time with the active roster may come to a close and Bazzana's time in the big leagues may arrive.
For now, the Guardians just have to hope that the lineup can find a way to carry Arias through slumps in his hitting until Bazzana does get the nod.
