49ers Receive Encouraging Injury Report on George Kittle, Jake Moody

Lost in all the Nick Bosa contract extension today was the injury report.

The 49ers have received encouraging news on several key players that include tight end George Kittle and rookie kicker Jake Moody. Both players were limited participants today after being held out of practice for roughly the last two weeks. Kittle was dealing with a groin injury which held him out of the good portion of training camp, while Moody was nursing a calf strain.

Having a limited status for a Wednesday practice typically means that a player will be active for the ensuing game. So, the 49ers go from potentially not having Kittle and Bosa against the Steelers to most likely having them both back. On top of that, they will likely get their starting kicker back instead of rolling with Matt Wright who was signed to the practice squad.

“Just as long as he doesn't have a setback," said Kyle Shanahan on Moody playing in Week 1. "He's looking good now and I feel good about him and I'd be surprised if he's not there. So, we'll keep going at the pace we're at. As long as he doesn't have a setback, we should be all right.”

I would argue that Moody might be better off sitting out this game. He's barely working his way back from injury and had a discouraging preseason. You have to wonder how mentally strong he is going into the Pittsburgh environment. There just isn't much to be confident about with Moody for that game, but it looks like the 49ers will have to trust him. They did draft him extremely high after all in the third round, so they have to start getting that immediate impact.

Today was a good day for the 49ers. They get Bosa back along with Kittle and Moody trekking towards being active. San Francisco will need all hands on deck against a strong Steelers team on the road.
