San Francisco 49ers NFL Draft Live Blog Day 3

This is the San Francisco 49ers live blog for the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. Grant Cohn will update this frequently with information and analysis from his war room.

8:10 The 49ers have three picks today. They have none in Round 4, one in Round 5 (156), one in Round 6 (210) and one in Round 7 (217).

8:11 The 49ers still need to draft a cornerback and should wait no later than Round 5 to take one. They also could draft a tight end, a guard, a safety or another wide receiver on Day 3.

8:45 Woke this morning thinking Brandon Aiyuk reminds me of former New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Both were late first-round picks. Both had extremely long arms -- 33.5 inches. Nicks was a legit No. 1 receiver for a couple seasons before he got injured. Could Aiyuk become a No. 1 receiver? Potentially, yes.

9:05 Two running backs the 49ers might sign as undrafted free agents: South Alabama's Tra Minter and TCU's Darius Anderson.

9:09 BREAKING: The 49ers just traded a fifth-round pick this year and a third-rounder next year to the Redskins for left tackle Trent Williams. Does this mean Joe Staley will retire? Stay tuned for more info.

10:41: Here is the link to my news story about Trent Williams.

10:42 Here is the link to my news story about Joe Staley's expected retirement.

10:54 The 49ers essentially have made three swaps this offseason: DeForest Buckner for Javon Kinlaw, Emmanuel Sanders for Brandon Aiyuk and Joe Staley for Trent Williams.

11:00 The Seahawks take Miami running back Deejay Dallas with the 144th pick. Excellent running back who breaks tackles and runs good routes. Good fit for the Seahawks. They've been searching for a bell cow since Marshawn Lynch retired the first time.

11:28 The 49ers just traded running back Matt Breida to the Dolphins for pick 153, and used that pick to select West Virginia offensive tackle Colton McKivitiz. Stay tuned for more info.

12:47 Here is the link to my news story about the 49ers trading Matt Breida.

12:48 Here is the link to my news story about the 49ers trading Marquise Goodwin.

2:24 Here is the link to my news story about the 49ers' sixth-round draft pick, tight end Charlier Woerner.

3:11 Here is the link to my news story about the 49ers' seventh-round draft pick, wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

3:12 Things sure escalated quickly today.

3:19 I'm surprised the 49ers didn't draft a cornerback. I'm surprised the 49ers didn't draft more than one defensive player. I'm surprised the 49ers traded up for a wide receiver on Day 1.

3:20 But the 49ers improved today. Before today, I felt they had taken a step back. They got worse when they swapped DeForest Buckner for Javon Kinlaw. And they probably got worse in the short term when they essentially swapped Emmanuel Sanders for Brandon Aiyuk. But they improved big time when they traded for Trent Williams. He's a big upgrade over Staley at left tackle. Williams was cheap. But he will be expensive next offseason when he hits free agency. Will the 49ers have enough cap space to re-sign him?
