Charlie Jones Helps Set Rare Punt Return Mark to Open 2023 NFL Season

Cincinnati's special teams scored a touchdown on Sunday.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals pulled off a punt return touchdown for the first time in over a decade on Sunday. Charlie Jones' 81-yard scamper set a rare rookie mark as well.

He and New York Jets rookie wide receiver Xavier Gipson's return last week marked the first season since 2015 with punt return TDs in the opening two weeks. It was also the first time since 2010 that rookies opened the first two weeks with punt return TDs (Dexter McCluster Week 1, Dez Bryant Week 2).

Jones' was one of the few highlights on Sunday as Cincinnati fell to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the division for a second straight campaign.
