Zac Taylor on Bengals Defensive Chemistry: 'Tightest Knit Group I've Ever Been Around'

In this story:
CINCINNATI — From offseason outings to locker room banter and fighting through tough playoff battles, the Cincinnati Bengals have one of the closest rosters in the NFL.
Head coach Zac Taylor's tone setting, and style play a role in all of that. It'll be especially important on defense where there's a bit more turnover.
"I feel really good," Taylor said about the defense. "I just think the chemistry. You see it in the offseason program. You see it at Sam Hubbard's camp. You see it at Logan Wilson's softball game. I mean it's the tightest-knit group I've ever been around in all the years I've been around football and so I think that just adds to the character there. The coaching staff we have on that side of the ball. These guys really enjoy being around each other and that translates to communication on the field playing for each other. Those are all things that we see from that group, and it's really impressive."
Communication will be crucial all season defensively especially on the backend of the secondary, while the defensive line is as deep as its ever been in the Taylor era.
Players like Hubbard, DJ Reader, B.J. Hill, and Trey Hendrickson will get some more snaps off this season with the addition of first-round pick Myles Murphy.
For now, there's plenty of time off for that crew as they vacation before the grind of training camp begins on July 26.
