S Rodney McLeod on Browns: I’m Excited to Join This Talented Team

Cleveland Browns new safety is ready to hit the ground running.

Cleveland Browns went out and grabbed another safety in free agent Rodney McLeod recently and he just might fit like a glove in Cleveland. Signing McLeod made too much sense, and he’s just as excited to be in Cleveland, as they are to have him.

“I’m excited to join this talented team, man,” said McLeod on NFL Total Access. “You’re talking about a great group of guys, Deshaun Watson at the forefront. Nick Chubb running the ball.”

McLeod had a connection in Cleveland and that is the new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Schwartz was the defensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016-20, and McLeod was in Philadelphia from 2016-21.

“Jim Schwartz was a huge reason why I wanted to go to Cleveland. We’re looking to bring a lot of that success we had in Philly, over to Cleveland this year.”

McLeod is joining a talented Browns’ defense on paper, one that has the means to force turnovers and get after the ball.

“Up front with Myles Garrett, as a defensive back, those are your best friends. Guys who apply pressure on the quarterback and we take advantage of that in the back end.”

It sounds a lot like McLeod is looking forward to playing with a talented player like Garrett, who may get him more opportunities to take the ball away from opposing offenses.

“What I’m more excited about is the defensive back group I have the pleasure of lining up with,” explained McLeod, who went on to name each starter in the Browns’ defensive backfield.

Signing with Cleveland was a simple process for the former Indianapolis Colts’ safety. It was a move that made sense for everyone.

“I’d say this process went a little faster than what I’ve been accustomed to. It was a quick 48 hours after I talked to Andrew Berry and my agent and my family.”

Going away, McLeod has one message for the opposition.

“Man, I’m telling you, watch out.”
