Browns Za’Darius Smith Healthy, Ready to Put up Numbers Opposite of Myles Garrett

Cleveland Browns are getting a healthy Za’Darius Smith, who could have a big season opposite of the best pass rusher he’s played with.

When the Browns traded for Za’Darius Smith from the Minnesota Vikings, they went out and got DE Myles Garrett the best pass rusher he’s been able to play with. Heading into the 2023 season, Smith is healthy and ready to create havoc with Garrett.

“I can’t wait to be out there with Myles (Garrett),” said Smith at Wednesday’s OTAs. “He texted me that he can’t wait to get going and hopefully we can be the best duo in the league.“

Garrett is certainly one of the best in the league and now will have another guy opposite of him that has the ability to get double-digit sacks. Last season with the Vikings, Smith had 10 sacks, though he was not very effective down the stretch. Smith explained that he was hurt but continued to play.

“I think I was making $200,000 just to dress out. You would dress out too.”

Smith is replacing Jadeveon Clowney, who gave Cleveland just a couple of sacks last season. By no means is there any pressure to replace the former Brown, as it shouldn’t be all that hard

“I just play my role. When you go to a new team you gotta be all about the team and helping the team win,” said Smith.

One thing that caught Smith’s eye about Cleveland was the ability to play for DC Jim Schwartz. He will be operating in a 4-3 front where he is much more comfortable with his hand in the ground.

“Hopefully I get double-digit sacks again this year."
