Cowboys Reportedly Out on Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly out of the running for DeAndre Hopkins. Where can the Arizona Cardinals deal him to?

The Arizona Cardinals are trying to find a trade partner for WR DeAndre Hopkins.

Thus far, little noise has emerged from the organization on where he may play his football in 2023. The Cardinals first reportedly put him on the trade block after their 4-13 season.

One would think the market would be robust for a receiver in the talents of Hopkins, though his age (will be 31 this year) and cap hit (he's owed $19.45 million in cash) have apparently discouraged teams from going after the All-Pro receiver.

Former NFL executive and current analyst Michael Lombardi said Hopkins' market isn't all that strong across the league:

“I think his market is really soft. I don’t think anybody wants to get into the Hopkins business, and then have to redo his contract,” said Lombardi (h/t WEEI).

“From what I’m told, it’s soft. There’s not a lot of action out there on him. He’s a good player, he’s always covered, but he always comes up with the football. But there’s other things that go into this, that I’m not at liberty to discuss that’s probably holding it all back.”

Though the Dallas Cowboys were initially linked to Hopkins, Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal is reporting that Dallas is out on both Hopkins and receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is trying to make a comeback after tearing his ACL.

Hopkins had some fun with the rumors on social media with current Cowboys players Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs.

Dallas recently just acquired WR Brandin Cooks for a fifth and sixth-round draft pick. According to OverTheCap, the Cowboys have $9.8 million in cap space (this was before they reportedly signed TE Dalton Schultz).

Arizona has $24.3 million in cap space and will accrue $22.6 million in dead cap after trading Hopkins (before June 1) while saving $8.15 million in cap for next year.

The Cardinals recently signed receiver Zach Pascal.
