5 Winners And 3 Losers From Day 9 of Eagles Training Camp: Quinton Mitchell Shows All-Pro Talent

Day 9 of Philadelphia Eagles training camp was a long one, as the Eagles emerged from an off day with a padded practice in the dead heat of summer.

With the preseason opener coming up on Saturday, the Eagles are preparing themselves for some football against actual opponents. In the meantime, a few camp practices won't hurt.

Players are emerging in this sessions, as seen in the practice observations and overreactions to the top storylines. What about the winners and losers from practice?

Day 9 of Eagles training camp had quite a few on both sides.

Winners

Darius Cooper: Every single day Cooper seems to be mentioned here. This shows how good of a camp Cooper is having. Cooper caught a lot of passes on Monday, including beating Riq Woolen on an out route that was noticeable. He's continuing to catch passes in the middle of the field and beating defenders to the ball. Cooper earned his place on the 53 last year and is making his case for an expanded role this year.

Quinyon Mitchell: An interception off Jalen Hurts won the game for the defense in the 2-minute drill team portion of practice. Hurts tried to thread the needle against Mitchell, but he's an All-Pro for a reason. Hurts had a good practice and the offense moved the ball, yet Mitchell was there to make the play that mattered. Mitchell has had a good summer and he's showing why he's the bets cornerback on the team.

Elijah Moore: Another player that continues to stack up good practices, Moore had two noticeable catches that resulted in big gains for the offense. Moore has showcased his speed after the catch, something the Eagles thought they were getting when they signed Hollywood Brown. Moore is making his case for a roster spot, as he's taken advantage of the injuries at wide receiver. The Eagles will have a decision to make in a few weeks with Moore.

Tariq Castro-Fields: Someone who has had a good training camp but his roster chances are slim is Castro-Fields. He had a pass breakup on Monday, continuing a summer of making plays. Castro-Fields was on the practice squad last year and the year prior, and is very familiar with the system. he may have a practice squad spot again with an opportunity to get elevated this year.

Michael Carter II: There is competition for the starting safety spot, and Carter II is pushing Marcus Epps for that job. Carter II is making plays at safety, including a nice pass breakup against Eli Stowers (who has shown signs of improvement). The Eagles are learning they can live with both Epps and Carter starting next to Andrew Mukuba, which is a good sign for the safety position.

Losers

Andy Dalton: Monday wasn't Dalton's best day, as he was off throughout the practice -- missing targets and couldn't get into a rhythm. This hurts Dalton in the battle against Tanner McKee -- who is catching Dalton -- but it was just one practice. These things do happen. The QB2 battle has gone back and forth, pending on the day.

Rocco Underwood: These was some monitoring of how Underwood is looking at long snapper. He didn't have a great session, as Underwood was missing snaps high and was inconsistent in getting the ball to Braden Mann. The Eagles may need to look for competition for Underwood, but have a few weeks to make a call on that. The season opener is September 14.

Hollywood Brown: This is more of what Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, and Elijah Moore are doing than what Brown isn't doing. The three mentioned are just having better camps than Brown, which puts Brown on the roster bubble. Brown just hasn't stood out like those three, which makes a conversation if he's going to be on this roster legitimate. He can turn things around this preseason, as there will be opportunities to make plays against teams that aren't the Eagles secondary.
