Jets 'Rumblings' of Brian Thomas Jr. Blockbuster Returns

It's no secret that the New York Jets could use another high-powered wide receiver and the Jacksonville Jaguars have one.

If the New York Jets can add another high-powered wide receiver this offseason, this offense could actually surprise some people.

Right now, the Jets have a very solid offensive line, an upgrade at quarterback in Geno Smith, one of the best running backs in the National Football League in Breece Hall, a superstar receiver in Garrett Wilson, a high-upside depth option in Adonai Mitchell and also a legit tight end in Mason Taylor, who Jets head coach Aaron Glenn already has said he thinks will take a leap in 2026.

If the Jets could add one more wide receiver between Wilson and Mitchell, this offense would be above-average on paper, at least. While breaking down the latest rumors and noise from the league's annual meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, ESPN's Rich Cimini said there have still been "rumblings" about Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr., as well as Green Bay Packers playmaker Dontayvion Wicks.

The Jets should get the Jaguars on the phone

"They're basing their optimism on a healthy [Garrett Wilson] and a big jump from Adonai Mitchell, a 6-foot-2 vertical threat who caught 24 passes in eight games after arriving from the Colts in the Sauce Gardner trade," Cimini wrote. "[Aaron Glenn] said he's eager to see how Mitchell progresses after a full offseason in the program. Their third and fourth receivers are Isaiah Williams (slot) and the ultrafast but raw Arian Smith.

"The Jets likely will use at least one of their four draft picks in the top 44 on a receiver, but don't be surprised if they add another veteran to the mix at some point. There have been rumblings about a potential trade, with Dontayvion Wicks and Brian Thomas Jr. among the names bandied about."

Thomas would be a legit addition if the Jets could get the Jaguars to pick up the phone. Jacksonville Jaguars general manager James Gladstone specifically shut down the idea of trading Thomas back in March. If that stance has softened, then there won't be many better options for New York to consider. He's just 23 years old and had 1,282 receiving yards as a rookie in 2024 and followed up with 707 yards in his second season in 2025 in 14 games played.

He should be the top target for New York. But, again, the Jaguars general manager specifically shut the idea down.

The chatter around Wicks picked up throughout the week and he would add some talent to the mix, but he's not at the same level as Thomas. This is a receiver coming off a season with 30 catches for 332 yards in 14 games in 2025. He's worth looking into, but doesn't move the needle as much.
