Two Biggest Notes From Seahawks' 16th Walkthrough Practice

The Seattle Seahawks get two big returns on the field for their walkthrough practice.

The Seattle Seahawks will take every rep possible to ensure they get better, even if it is just a walkthrough. After Wednesday’s practice, only two practices remain for the Seahawks before their first preseason game on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys. This was a chance for the coaches to fix some mental errors of the team and to prepare for two big final practices before preseason football starts.

Nick Emmanwori and Jadarian Price Return

The biggest thing to come out of Wednesday’s practice is the return of two of the best young players. Rookie running back Jadarian Price returned to practice after missing the last five. Although it was only the walkthrough portion, it was good for the young back to get the mental reps and be out there with the team.

For the first time during training camp, second-year nickel Nick Emmanwori stepped onto the practice field to take part in team activities. Emmanwori was recently taken off the PUP list after having to undergo surgery to repair his ankle at the beginning of July.

There is a good chance that he’ll ease his transition into more aggressive practices and he won’t practice Thursday or Friday. This is, however, a step in the right  direction.

Drew Lock Remains in Front of Jalen Milroe

The Seattle Seahawks are doing their due diligence on the backup quarterback position behind Sam Darnold. For the longest time, it's been Drew Lock as the steady backup, but the team opened the competition. They want to see what impact second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe can bring to the team. Last season, Milroe was utilized as a gadget player, but wasn’t properly developed in the passing game.

Lock has been taking a good bit of the reps with the second-team offense, but so has Milroe. There have been reports that Milroe looks more consistent in throwing the ball towards the middle of the field than in his rookie season. Lock, however, has the experience, passing versatility and the knowledge of the offense to take the number two spot on the team.

It is highly doubtful that Darnold will play in Saturday’s game versus the Cowboys. Lock will likely be the first quarterback to get out there for the Seahawks’ offense, but they’ll likely have plans to alternate Milroe.

These preseason games will likely be the deciding factor of who gets the backup role behind Darnold. The third-string quarterback could be a trade target after several injuries and surprising retirements have occurred with other teams. Lock is in the final year of his two-year deal.
