DK Metcalf Just Failed the Steelers

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- DK Metcalf just failed the Pittsburgh Steelers. This team is on the verge of the playoffs, and looks better than it has all season. And now, with two games remaining, their leading wide receiver just messed up.
Metcalf finished the Steelers' win over the Detroit Lions with four receptions for 42 yards. He made a few big blocks in the running game, one in particular sparking a 45-yard touchdown run by Jaylen Warren, and was a key component to the win.

But no one is going to talk about his receiving yards or his impact in the ground game. Instead, they're going to talk about him hitting a fan and what that's going to mean for his availability moving forward.
For those who missed it, Metcalf and a Lions fan got into an altercation on the sideline during the second quarter of the game. Metcalf must have walked over to the fan and the two started going at it. Eventually, Metcalf struck the fan before walking away.

Metcalf wasn't ejected from the ballgame because the refs did not see it when it happened. But that likely means his punishment afterward is going to be more aggressive. So, while Metcalf got to contribute ot the Steelers' playoff push in Week 16, there's a chance he's not going to in Week 17.
What's Coming for Metcalf?
There has to be a reason for Metcalf going over to a fan during a game and then getting so upset that he swung at them. We don't know what the reason is, but it's hard to imagine it was friendly trash talk. Still, punishment is coming at the wrong time for Metcalf.
It's almost guaranteed that Metcalf is going to be fined by the NFL for an altercation with a fan. However, that's probably just the beginning. Without knowing anything for certain, there's some expectation that Metcalf could be facing a suspension, which would at least keep him out for the team's Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Something the Steelers cannot afford to happen.
Pittsburgh haven't won the AFC North just yet. They're on a three-game winning streak and are playing some of their best football on both sides of the football. But it's only three games and there are only two games left for this team to claim the division.
The NFL is about momentum going into the playoffs. Pittsburgh has an opportunity to have the right trajectory and a stacked winning streak before the Wild Card round, but are now going to deal with distractions from their star wide receiver and the many questions that come from the incident.
The win over the Lions will be overshadowed by Metcalf's incident. The week of preparation for the Browns will be overshadowed by it as well.
Metcalf has been great all season. All the noise about him being a diva wide receiver and someone who causes problems hasn't shown up in Pittsburgh - until now.
With two games remaining in the regular season, Metcalf may not be on the field. And he certainly failed the Pittsburgh Steelers.
