Royals Roster Moves: Maikel Garcia Lands on Injured List, Matthew Lugo Set for Team Debut

In this story:
The Kansas City Royals announced a handful of roster moves ahead of their series opener against the Detroit Tigers. The most significant move is Kansas City placing infielder Maikel Garcia on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Garcia exited the series finale against the Athletics on Thursday in the first inning. He was rounding third base but didn’t make it far before stopping in his tracks and grabbing his left hamstring.
The 26-year-old left the game, and it was later confirmed that he suffered a hamstring injury. This is especially frustrating for Garcia, as he was just reinstated from the injured list Aug. 17 after missing nearly two months with a left hand muscle strain.
This also isn’t the first issue Garcia has had with his hamstring. In late May, he injured his right hamstring while rounding second base. While he avoided a stint on the injured list, he still missed several games because of the injury. It has been an unfortunate season for Garcia, with injuries holding him back throughout the year.
In other moves, right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran was optioned to Triple-A Omaha following his first two outings in a Royals uniform. In those two appearances, Duran logged 1 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out one. He also picked up his first major league win.
In corresponding moves, outfielder Matthew Lugo was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and is set to make his Royals debut in the near future. Right-handed pitcher Jose Cuas was also recalled from Omaha to replace Duran.
