SI Names Offensive Threat as Browns Most Underrated Player

In this story:
Cleveland Browns didn’t have a big need to go out and sign free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins due to how the room currently sits. One of the players with a big part in the team not needing to make that move is Donovan Peoples-Jones.
Recently, a Sports Illustrated article named Peoples-Jones as the Browns’ most underrated player. Since being a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Michigan product has improved every season of his career to this point.
As a rookie, Peoples-Jones broke onto the scene late and played in 12 total games, totaling 304 receiving yards. During the 2021 season, he played in 14 games (nine starts and had just under 600 yards. This past season was the actual breakout, where Peoples-Jones had 839 receiving yards and a punt return for a touchdown. It was his first season as a full-time starter.
Last year, Peoples-Jones worked with then-backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett for 11 games. He got a few games in with Deshaun Watson and the two should have a nice connection going forward. 2023 very well could be the first season that the Browns’ second receiving option gets 100 targets and it could result in big things.
Having improved each of his first three seasons in the NFL, there’s no reason to think that he can make it a fourth with the most talented quarterback he’s played with. Since coming into the NFL, Peoples-Jones has had a knack for making contested catches, he’s a sure hand.
If the Browns want to make the leap they think they can in 2023, the former sixth-round pick is going to most certainly play a part in that. Along the way, don’t be surprised if he becomes more of a national name.
