Report: Cardinals Could Release DeAndre Hopkins

The trade market has cooled mightily on DeAndre Hopkins - so much to the point that other NFL teams believe they could release him.

The Arizona Cardinals have been searching for a trade partner for WR DeAndre Hopkins since the early stages of the offseason.

As we approach the 2023 NFL Draft, Hopkins is still on the roster for one reason or another. Arizona reportedly believes his worth is a second-round pick and something else of value.

Interested teams have disagreed, and thus little movement has been made on getting Hopkins out of the desert. There's been a handful of reports suggesting the Cardinals simply are asking too much in a trade for a 30-year-old receiver with a large contract.

Now, some NFL teams reportedly believe the Cardinals will release Hopkins rather than trade him.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer went on the Greg Bedard Podcast and offered the following:

“Some teams think that Cardinals are going to cut him, they think the Cardinals will wind up cutting him.” Breer said (h/t Bro Bible), “His market is not great right now. There’s nobody who was willing to take on Hopkins’ contract and pay the Cardinals initial asking price.”

Hopkins initially had a no-trade clause in his contract that gave him full control over where he went, but that was reportedly forfeited by his suspension last season.

Adam "Pacman" Jones - a close friend of Hopkins - made a previous appearance on the Pat McAfee Show and said to watch out for the following five teams: New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.

While it's still unknown exactly where Hopkins will land, releasing one of the top receivers of his era rather than getting something of value for him will be a bad look for Arizona.
