Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon Provides Update on DeAndre Hopkins

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is still not with the team as offseason team activities begin.

Offseason team activities are underway for the Arizona Cardinals, and a few notable names were spotted at the facility.

That includes most of the roster, even quarterback Kyler Murray who is rehabbing a torn ACL.

“I’m not [on] Twitter or wherever he posted that, but obviously I talk to Kyler a lot,” Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters at a Tuesday press conference.

“He’s got competitive juice, so he wants to be doing everything that he can to get out there when he can to help the team win. So, pleased where that’s at. I think I told him the other day, ‘As good as you feel, there’s going to be a little bit of a dip. You’ve got to make sure you don’t overdo it, too.’

‘That’s a part [of] being smart when you rehab from any injury. You want to go, go, go. Sometimes you’ve got to push the pause button a little bit. But, excited about where he’s at and where he’s going.”

All eyes though are on the status of DeAndre Hopkins, who is expected to part ways with the team at some point in 2023 whether by trade or release.

"We'll see. I've been in communication with D-Hop," Gannon said. "I want to do what's best for him and us, at the same time. When he's ready to come, he'll come and improve his game, too."

This of course is a bit different than the tone both Gannon and GM Monti Ossenfort carried through the prior steps of the offseason, as both said they were excited to have him on the team.

Hopkins has been spotted working out in Texas through much of the offseason, which includes the last few days according to his Instagram account.
