Denzel Mims hasn't exactly lived up to the expectations for a second-round draft pick.

The receiver has flashed talent, but steady production has been absent.

The 6-foot-3 Mims has totaled 42 receptions over his first three seasons (30 games). He has failed to hit the 200-yard receiving mark each of the past two years.

Mims, the No. 59 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has caught less than 46 percent of his targets as a pro.

Although sparingly, he has shown big-play potential. The 25-year old Mims averages 16.1 yards per receptions and more than 64 percent of his grabs resulted in first downs.

"Hopefully, Mims takes another step forward," said Jets' head coach Robert Saleh at the NFL League Meetings in late March.

It may be tough for Mims to earn his way onto the field this season after the Jets added receivers Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb in free agency.

Saleh, however, says the infusion of veteran pass-catchers could prove beneficial to Mims, who enters the final season on his rookie contract.

"The same thing goes for Mims, to see these guys, these veterans," said Saleh. "Just being surrounded by veterans, whether it’s quarterback or somebody in your own room is always beneficial."
