NFL Confirms How Seahawks Are Viewed Among Top Players

In this story:
The NFL offseason will conclude with one more preseason game after this weekend. The NFL is concluding its series of the top 100 players going into the season as voted by other players in the league. Not only were players No. 11 and 12 announced on Friday, but the top ten players were announced in alphabetical order.
At least one more player for the Seattle Seahawks is on the list in wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the reigning offensive player of the year. His place on the list is yet to be determined.
This also means that the Seahawks will only have three players on the list of the top players. Quarterback Sam Darnold comes in at No. 21 and linebacker Ernest Jones IV comes in at No. 97. While several teams have three players on the list, a lot of deserving players were left out of the list that easily should have been.
Who is Left Out?

Several players from the Dark Side Defense that deserve to be mentioned as top 100 players. Only one player from the Seahawks’ top-ranked scoring defense is on the list.
One of the first is cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who just got the richest contract for a cornerback in NFL history. Witherspoon is one of the league’s top coverage players, one of the most dynamic players and one of a few players to be named to the Pro Bowl in his first three years.
Another deserving set of players are defensive tackles Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II. Both players are elite run stoppers and high-volume pass rushers for players their size. Williams and Murphy have accounted for 62 total tackles, at least seven sacks, at least seven tackles for loss and double-digit quarterback hits.
What the Top 100 List Says About the Seahawks

This top 100 list was made before the end of the regular season, but there was still enough to show that Witherspoon, Murphy and Williams belonged. These are players that have made elite contributions throughout the season and not just in the postseason. There were points when Darnold struggled in the middle of the season, and yet, he was voted in.
There is a point that the Seahawks are so far in the Pacific Northwest that they are hard to consistently keep track of. Seattle is also in the same division as the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, who will get more coverage due to their location and history. The 49ers have four players, while the Rams have six players, with five at the time of the voting.
The lack of awareness is nothing new for the Seahawks, but it continues to be disrespectful to the actual results on the field. Seattle is going to be serious contenders for a second consecutive Super Bowl title, considering they have one of the best and most loaded rosters in the league, regardless of how many players are on an opinionated list.
