Injury-Hit Liverpool Come From Behind to Thrash Luton and Move Four Points Clear at Top of EPL

Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Wednesday night after beating Luton Town 4-1 at Anfield.

Chiedozie Ogbene headed Luton into a shock lead in the 12th minute but Liverpool hit back after half-time with goals from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott.

Two of Liverpool's four goals were assisted by Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool had 11 players missing due to injury issues on Wednesday.

Mo Salah was unavailable due to a hamstring problem. Darwin Nunez missed out with a knock.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip and Ben Doak were all ruled out by knee injuries, while Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Stefan Bajcetic, Alisson and Thiago Alcantara were also missing.

Despite having a depleted team, Jurgen Klopp's side bossed the game and were good value for their 4-1 victory.

The Reds recorded 29 shots - 17 more than Luton.

Wednesday's result saw Liverpool move four points above Manchester City and five ahead of Arsenal.

City and Arsenal have each now played one game fewer than the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Luton remain in the relegation zone - below 17th-placed Everton on goal difference.
