Lamine Yamal, 15, Makes Record-Breaking Cameo As Barcelona Hammer Real Betis

Lamine Yamal has made history by becoming the youngest footballer ever to play for Barcelona.

The teenage forward made his senior debut as an 83rd-minute substitute in Saturday's 4-0 win over Real Betis at the Camp Nou.

At the age of 15 years and 290 days, Yamal is the fifth-youngest player ever to feature in La Liga.

After replacing Gavi, Yamal touched the ball 12 times during a lively cameo.

He had one shot and it forced Betis keeper Rui Silva into a smart save.

Yamal found a teammate with all eight of his attempted passes, including a brilliant chipped ball that found Ousmane Dembele in space on the edge of the six-yard box.

Unfortunately, Dembele failed to control the ball, meaning Yamal was denied an assist on his debut.

But the teenage starlet was still given a standing ovation by the Barcelona fans at full-time.

Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha had earlier scored to give Barcelona a 3-0 lead inside the opening 39 minutes.

Betis were reduced to 10 men when it was only 1-0. Edgar Gonzalez was sent off for picking up two yellow cards after fouling Raphinha and then Pedri.

A Guido Rodriguez own goal made it 4-0 to Barcelona moments before Yamal's late introduction.

Barcelona's victory saw them move 11 points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table with six rounds of fixtures remaining.

Who Is Lamine Yamal?

Lamine Yamal was born in Esplugues de Llobregat, less than 4 km from the Camp Nou.

He has come up through the youth ranks at Barcelona's famous academy, La Masia.

Yamal first started training with Barcelona's first team in September last year after manager Xavi Hernandez identified him as a player with star potential.

He has played for Spain in the Under 15, U16, U17 and U19 age groups.

But he is also eligible to represent Morocco or Equatorial Guinea based on his parentage.

Yamal is left-footed but prefers to play on the right when deployed as a winger. He can also play as a central striker or as a no.10.
