Harry Kane Passes 60 International Goals As England Beat Italy To Qualify For Euro 2024

England secured their place at Euro 2024 thanks to a 3-1 win over Italy at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.

Gianluca Scamacca gave Italy an early lead against the run of play before Harry Kane equalized from the penalty spot by scoring the 60th goal of his international career.

Kane's penalty had been won by Jude Bellingham, who then provided a superb assist for Marcus Rashford before Kane scored again to cap an excellent performance.

This was England's second win over Italy since losing to the Azzurri in a penalty shootout at Wembley in the final of Euro 2020.

Italy failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but still have every chance of making it to Germany next summer.

However, if Italy lose against the Ukraine next month then the three-time world champions would have to win a four-team playoff to reach Euro 2024.

Kane - playing in his 87th game for the Three Lions - became the first player to score 60 international goals for England when he confidently converted a penalty kick past Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 32nd minute on Tuesday.

This was Kane's 21st penalty goal for England, coming from his 25th spot-kick. Bellingham had won the penalty by drawing a foul out of Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Di Lorenzo had earlier set up Scamacca to put Italy 1-0 up with his first ever international goal.

Scamacca's strike briefly silenced Wembley, where some England fans had earlier jeered during the Italian national anthem.

But England supporters were making plenty of noise after Rashford fired the home side 2-1 ahead in the 57th minute following more great work from Bellingham.

The Real Madrid midfielder started the move with a slide tackle just outside of the England penalty area, before dribbling through the center of the field and then passing to Rashford, who cut inside and lashed home from 16 yards.

It was 3-1 to England in the 77th minute when Kane got his second goal of the night with a fine solo strike.

England's victory guaranteed that Gareth Southgate's side will finish top of qualifying Group C.

The Three Lions have taken 16 points from six games, having scored 19 goals and conceded just three.

England have now qualified for eight consecutive major tournaments since missing out on a place at Euro 2008.
