Dodgers Roundup: LA Officially Releases 5 Players, Cuts Veteran Pitcher, Trade Deadline Addition Called Up

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals, 6-5, on Monday night and improved to 71-48 on the year.

Tarik Skubal fanned six across five innings of work in his Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium debut, allowing three earned runs in the process. Jack Dreyer gave up another two in the seventh inning, but the offense clawed all the way back to take the win to begin the series.

Down three runs entering the bottom of the third, it was none other than superstar Shohei Ohtani who got the Dodgers on the board with a well-hit RBI double. Later that same inning, Freddie Freeman notched an RBI single to bring Ohtani home.

On his bobblehead night, third baseman Max Muncy brought in three runs with an RBI double of his own. In the seventh inning, it was Freeman once again with an RBI single (despite being thrown out at second) to break the deadlock and give the Dodgers the lead.

Ahead of the eventual victory, the Dodgers moved on from a veteran right-handed pitcher with six years of experience in MLB as he was designated for assignment. The 29-year-old was acquired by LA this past May, but has posted a 6.45 ERA in 22.1 innings of work.

In the same roster move, a Dodgers trade deadline addition was called up after failing to allow an earned run in 6.1 innings of Triple-A ball. The right-hander has a fastball that sits in the triple digits (and touched 102 while in Triple-A), and also slams on the brakes with a slider with an average velocity in the high-80s.

In other news, the Dodgers recently released five players from the organization. A catcher and four pitchers were let go from multiple levels.
