Giants Move Willy Adames to Injured List as One of 10 Pre-Game Transactions

While Willy Adames’ move to the injured list was the big move before the Cincinnati game, the San Francisco Giants were moving players all over the place.

The San Francisco Giants will be without shortstop Willy Adames for a while.

The Giants moved him to the 10-day injured list on Monday with a left elbow sprain, per the team. San Francisco also provided a medical update on several injured players, including Adames. The Giants reported that an MRI revealed a moderate sprain to his left elbow. He’s set to meet with team doctors later Monday.

But Adames wasn’t the only player moving around. In advance of the Giants’ game with the Cincinnati Reds, they made 10 transactions, including Adames.

San Francisco announced the following moves:

Recalled infielder Nate Furman, outfielder Grant McCray, pitcher Anthony Molina, pitcher Ryan Walker and infielder Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sacramento;

Moved infielder Bryce Eldridge to the bereavement list;

Optioned pitcher Matt Wilkinson to Sacramento;

Moved infielder Willy Adames to the 10-day injured list;

Moved outfielder Victor Bericoto to the 10-day injured list with a right knee bone bruise

Moved pitcher JT Brubaker to the 15-day injured list with bruised ribs.

That naturally led to some changes in the lineup on Monday. The Giants started Christian Koss at shortstop for Adames and batted him ninth in the order. The outfield alignment included Drew Gilbert in center field and leading off, Turner Hill playing left field and batting fourth and McCray playing right field and batting eighth. Jung Hoo Lee, who normally plays right field, was the designated hitter and batting third.

Whitcomb was also in the lineup, playing third base and batting seventh.

Among players that were not part of Monday’s moves, the Giants provided updates on pitcher Jose Butto, pitcher Matt Gage, infielder Marcelo Mayer, pitcher Jesus Rodriguez and pitcher Keaton Winn. Gage is on a rehab assignment, and Rodriguez began a rehab assignment on Sunday.

Mayer, who was acquired from the Bosto, Red Sox in a trade at the deadline, is on a rehab only path as the franchise evaluates his left unla bone stress reaction.

The Giants are wrapping up the month of August with a three-game set against the Reds, followed by a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks that includes a doubleheader on Saturday. The two teams agreed to play a doubleheader that day so both could have a day off on Sunday.

On Aug. 31, the Giants head to Atlanta for their makeup game with the with the Braves.
